Embanked enclosure

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Runnamoat, County Roscommon, Ireland. The 1837 Ordnance Survey map marked a subrectangular or D-shaped enclosure about 55 metres north-south and 50 metres east-west with a bank running west to northeast. It sits on a gentle northeast-facing slope at the north end of a slight ridge, though poor pasture now hides it from ground level.
Marked as an subrectangular or D-shaped enclosure (dims. c. 55m N-S; c. 50m E-W) with a bank W-NE only on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a gentle NE-facing slope at the N end of a slight WNW-ESE ridge. It is not visible at ground level in an area of poor pasture. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
