What is recorded here

Half a metre of broken stone and two shallow pits mark the southern edge of a turlough in Rinnamona. Water may have risen and fallen around the heat, carrying warmth into the marsh instead of wasting it in ordinary fire. The site is small enough to walk across in a minute, yet it belongs to a long human habit of shaping water, stone and hunger into one instrument.

Listed as 'Fulachta Fiadha' in the RMP (1996). At the S end of a turlough. A low grass-covered area (c. 13m N-S; c. 8m E-W; max. H 0.3m) of burnt and broken stone with two grassed-over quarry-holes (diam. 2.5m; D 0.2m) at the E edge and a larger one at NW (diam. c. 4m x 3m). Another fulacht fia (CL017-186002-) lies c. 12m to the NW. Three fulachtaí fia were recorded c. 150m N of here (pers. comm. T. Coffey, SMR file). It would appear that that locational information was incorrect due to a transfer from small to large scale mapping. There is a gravel bank (L c. 9m; Wth c. 3m) c. 30m N of CL017-186002- which may have been misinterpreted as a third fulacht fia. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 6 October 2014
