Collins Barracks

Detached single-storey former wagon shed, built c.1840, now with only southern two bays and northern two bays surviving. Currently in use as offices. Pitched artificial slate with uPVC fascia and rainwater goods. Squared rubble limestone walls with cement render to north elevation of southern block and red brick to south elevation of northern block indicating scar of historic adjoining section of the building. Segmental-headed window openings with red brick heads, red brick block-and-start surrounds, limestone sills and uPVC windows. Segmental-headed door openings with red brick heads, red brick block-and-start surrounds and replacement timber doors and overlights. Located within army barracks.

Originally built as wagon sheds, the two surviving sections were part of the original buildings constructed in the early nineteenth century when the barracks was established. A complex of stables, which are no longer extant, were constructed to the east. Though most of the building has been lost, the surviving sections add colour and textural interest with the grey limestone walls offset by red brick dressings.
