Enclosure in Rathkenny

Enclosure

What is recorded here

In improved pasture, on a SE-facing slope. A ringfort (TS062-135----) and enclosure (TS062-108----) are located c. 220m to SE and c. 270m to NE respectively. It is depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) with a field boundary running NW-SE through the monument, just E of centre and a field boundary runs E-W from the N westward, while the N quadrant appears to have been truncated when incorporated into a small field. By the 2nd 1903-04 ed. the enclosure is no longer depicted though the field boundary running E-W along the N quadrant has joined with the field boundary running NW-SE and the small field is gone. It is not visible at ground level. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
