RATH in Magheralave, County Antrim, is an early Christian rath: a small fortified place where people lived, prayed or kept what they valued before the region took its later shapes. The name still points to a made boundary, a ring of earth or stone strong enough to exclude rain, danger and forgetting. Whether it guarded a family, a hermit or a trading lane, the ground remembers that someone shaped it for daily life.
