Mortons and others lived inside Rakeevan, perhaps watching the land or waiting for trouble. They built a thirty-three metre circle with a solid earth bank and shallow ditch, then left a narrow gap at the southeast for entry. Centuries later, farm boundaries swallowed the west and north edges, but the broken ring still marks the place where human hands shaped the ground before fairy names arrived.

Raised circular area (int. diam. 33m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a narrow, shallow fosse, both of which have been incorporated into the field boundary from SW-W-NW. Narrow break in bank at SE may represent original entrance. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
