Enclosure in Queensfort

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Immediately E of the Queensfort ringfort, the northern half of a circular enclosure measured about forty metres across. The 1931 map marked it while the land itself has erased every trace. Whatever life moved inside that lost circle, the soil has taken back, leaving only the ringfort and a gap in the ground where memory should be.
Immediately E of a ringfort (GA030-110----). Marked on 3rd ed. of OS 6-inch map (1931) as N half of a circular enclosure (D c. 40m). No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
