What is recorded here
Gateway, extant 1903, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of rendered, ruled and lined piers having cut-granite pyramidal capping supporting finial-topped wrought iron double gates. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Polehore House.
A gateway forming part of a neat self-contained group alongside an adjacent gate lodge (see 15703716) with the resulting ensemble not only making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene at the entrance on to the grounds of the Polehore House estate, but also clearly illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate by Richard Francis Spring JP (d. 1913).
This does not grant access. Most recorded buildings are privately owned; view them only from public ground unless the owner allows entry.
