What is recorded here

Hentley's Forth in Ballynahinch is a platform rath, an elevated earthwork where a flat top rises above the surrounding land. Such platforms suited leadership, ritual or display because they were visible from a distance and hard to reach when wet. The name Hentley suggests a family or local line claimed the place, though no surviving account explains who they were or when they left it empty.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as PLATFORM RATH: HENTLEY'S FORTH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
