Pit

Discovered in 2001 during archaeological testing in advance of the construction of the N25 Youghal Bypass. Subsequent excavation revealed a small, truncated, subcircular pit (0.68m N-S x 0.65m; D 0.1m) with a large flat stone at the base. The pit consisted of three fills, the lowest of which contained the partial base of a prehistoric pottery vessel. A carbon sample from this pit produced a date of 2140-1870 cal. BC.
