Garth Castle is a ruined tower house in Glen Lyon, built in 1384 by Alexander Stewart, Earl of Buchan, who died there in 1396. Its stones resisted time and scavengers because the valley kept them hidden, but Cromwell’s cannons broke the roof and bridge in 1654, leaving the castle open to the sky. A wolf may have howled in those chambers, or only the wind may have sounded like one.
