Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, between 1881-1922, with royal cipher removed. Set in random rubble stone boundary wall.

Representing an early-surviving artefact of mass-produced cast-iron ware a post box supplied by the W.T. Allen and Company Foundry of London forms an appealing, if subtle feature in the street scene. Although many of the raised details including the royal cipher have been removed further attributes including the manufacturer's signature identify the design aesthetic importance of the piece.
