Orchard Lower holds a subrectangular moated site overlooking the countryside, its shallow fosse wrapping three sides like a forgotten embrace. The entrance may have faced east-northeast, inviting visitors into a space where water and land still negotiate their boundary. Whoever dug that channel understood visibility and defence, shaping a small world where the horizon belongs to the person standing inside it.

Situated in a prominent position overlooking the surrounding countryside. A subrectangular area (max. dim. c. 40m NE-SW) enclosed by a shallow fosse (Wth c. 3m, int. D c. 1.3m, ext.
