Fairy fort in Newtowneyre, County Galway: a circular earthen ringfort, 31.4 metres across, on a gentle rise in undulating grassland. Its bank is fair and unbroken except a two-metre gap at the south-east, possibly the original entrance. Trees now line the south, west and north sides, tightening the circle into a hidden room. People may have lived there before becoming a fairy name, or the fairy name may have protected the memory of their lives.
