What is recorded here
Within an old field system, in rough mountain terrain. Several drystone-built structures lie within or directly outside a large, roughly square enclosure/field. Three of these (KE034-132002-, KE034-132003- & KE034-132004-) are D-shaped structures abutting the inner face of the SW wall of the enclosure. They range from 2.1 x 1.2m to 4 x 3m in diameter internally and their walls are nowhere more than .6m high. Directly outside the SE wall of the enclosure is a circular foundation now totally filled in with collapse. D: at least 2m. Within the field, a short distance from its NW wall, are 3 conjoined structures. One is a circular corbelled hut. D: 3m. H: 2m. Abutting its SW side, but not communicating directly with it, is a sub-rectangular structure. D: 3.5 x 2.5m. H: .6m. A possible entrance at SW leads into a 3rd, ill-defined structure. D: 2.4 x 2m. H: .5m.
The above description is derived from J. Cuppage, ‘Corca Dhuibhne. Dingle Peninsula archaeological survey. Ballyferriter. Oidhreacht Chorca Dhuibhne’ (1986), no. 1340. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
