Indicated

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated was a roughly circular fort on a low Galway hill, large enough for a small life but now erased by quarrying. It may have hosted families, arguments, births and quiet rituals before stone-hungry hands removed its marker. What is lost is not nothing; it is a reminder that progress often feeds on memory.
On W slope of a low hill. Marked on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure (D c. 40m). The hill has been extensively quarried and no visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
