Moyally earthwork is the outer ditch of the castle, not a separate monument. The main castle stands south of the ditch, while the shallow twin grooves mark the wider defence line that once enclosed it. What looks like an ordinary field scar is the missing half of the fortress, still shaping the land around the building people actually see.

To the N of the castle (OF001-002001-) are a pair of shallow fosses running on an E/W axis. These were probably the outer defences of the Plantation Castle.
