Graveyard

What is recorded here

Askeaton’s graveyard presses against the Franciscan friary, a rectangular shadow bounded by an old wall and an eastern gate. It is not a forgotten ditch but a living edge of the town, where burial, prayer and memory still touch one another. The exact age of the wall resists easy answer, yet the shape and position make its purpose clear.
Adjoining the Franciscan friary (LI011-092006-) in Askeaton on the SSE side there is a graveyard which consists of a subrectangular-shaped area (approx. dims. 34m N-S x 44m E-W) enclosed by a wall of uncertain antiquity with entrance gate at E.
