Kilmallock Famine Memorial Park stands beside the old workhouse where fever and hunger claimed thousands during the mid 1800s. The burial ground absorbed those losses before becoming a place of remembrance rather than forgetting. It is not a polished monument but a lived boundary between memory and soil.

Kilmallock Famine Memorial Park is located immediately E of Bohergarrode, that marks the townland boundary with Gortboy and immediately S of Kilmallock Union Workhouse which was built between 1839-40. A 40 bed fever hospital was built onto the workhouse in the mid 1800s and is annotated 'Hospital (Infectious Diseases)' on the Cassini ed. OSi 6-inch map.
