What is recorded here

Castlelaw and Dreghorn Training Area is a military firing range in Midlothian where first world war and twentieth century troops drilled beside older fort remains. Gunfire and manoeuvre turned the land into a rehearsal for violence, while the hill held earlier human marks beneath the noise. The clash of ages gives the place its edge: modern weapons practice laid over ancient settlement, both still embedded in the same ground.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castlelaw and Dreghorn Training Area as Firing Range (20th Century), Firing Range (first World War), Military Training Site (first World War), Military Training Site (20th Century), Trench (first World War), Trench(s) (20th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Castlelaw and Dreghorn Training Area was used by the British military during both World Wars and the 20th century for firing practice and training. It is remembered as an important site for military preparedness in Scotland.
