Cyfarthfa Castle is a castellated mansion built in 1824 for the Crawshay ironmasters, featuring fifteen towers and seventy-two rooms that overlook the valley and works. The name Cyfarthfa loosely translates as place of barking because hunting dogs were regularly heard in this area. William Crawshay II commissioned the house at a cost of approximately £30,000 using locally quarried stone, creating a residence with extensive cellars that once held over fifteen thousand bottles of wine and spirits. The building later became a school and museum, preserving the grandeur of the ironmaster family who commanded views of their industrial empire.
