Megalithic tomb in Elmhill

Megalithic tomb

What is recorded here

Elmhills is a place of small chambers and buried chambers, not one grand tomb. That is why it is hard to picture and harder to forget. Some rooms are open, some are hidden under soil, and the boundary between them has shifted as often as the hill itself.
See linked document with details from Ruaidhrí de Valera and Seán Ó Nualláin, Survey of the Megalithic Tombs of Ireland. Volume I. County Clare. (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1961) Date of upload: 30 December 2011
Portal dolmen; dates to the Neolithic period, approximately 3500–2500 BCE. This type of tomb is significant as it reflects early communal burial practices and megalithic construction in Ireland.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
