Donaghmore

Graveyard

What is recorded here

Donaghmore is a graveyard and monastic ruin beside the N51 road where a 10th-century round tower still stands beside the remains of a later church. The place was called Domnach Mór, the Great Church, and it changed from a small Christian settlement into a lived community before becoming a burial ground for millers, landlords and an unknown Croppy brought in the dark. Even its hidden objects, such as a yew Penal Cross kept in old thatch, suggest that Donaghmore has spent centuries holding what people could not easily show the world.
Donaghmore is a graveyard in County Meath, Ireland.
