Inishdaff

Inishdaff is a tiny Mayo islet carrying a ruined church, the kind of deliberate island sanctuary that early medieval hermits and monks scattered along the Atlantic fringe. The building still stands small against the sea, neither explained nor dismissed, while the community that sustained it withdrew into the ordinary world. What is certain is that Inishdaff resisted forgetting long after its neighbours stopped naming it.
