Feaghmead Fort

Feaghmead Fort is a substantial early medieval rath on a rounded knoll in Ballynalynagh, County Mayo, where a six-to-seven metre bank still rises nearly three metres against the western horizon of Nephin Mountain. The earthwork has outlasted the four field boundaries that once met at its base, becoming the last visible marker of how that pastureland was organised. Inside, a shallow rectangular depression holds protruding stones but no longer reveals what it contained, leaving the fort to stand as a quiet witness to forgotten human arrangement.
