Ice Ho is a grass-covered circular icehouse built into the outer bank of a Galway rath around 1780. Its pointed arch and short passage lead into a barrel-shaped chamber with a corbelled dome, large enough for people to move around blocks of ice. The structure still stands inside an ancient earthwork, joining human memory, household practice and local landscape in one unusual place.

This grass-covered circular icehouse, which is constructed of mortared coursed masonry, was built into the external face of the inner bank of a rath (GA125-124001-) at NE. A pointed arch opening leads to a short passageway (L 2.5m; H 1.7m) that accesses the interior, which is barrel shaped (int. diam. 3m; H 3.9m). The roof is domed and corbelled.
