Derryglassaun holds a collapsed underground passage beneath a Galway ringfort, preserving a hidden chamber that local memory still treats as a real cave. A man recalled his father walking into that darkness, suggesting the hole remained open enough for human curiosity long before surveyors doubted it. The earth may have swallowed the entrance, but it did not erase the shape of the journey.

Associated with a ringfort (GA059-028----). Claffey (1983, 151) notes that the oval hollow (NW-SE 6m) in N half 'may be a collapsed Man-made underground passage'. According to local tradition, there is a 'cave' within this ringfort, the entrance to which was in another 'hollow' outside the 'fort' to N: not located.
