Man-made underground passage in Cloghboola More

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Under Cloghboola More, a man-made passage hides inside a levelled ringfort, waiting for boots heavy enough to break the silence. Broker named an underground chamber in 1937, yet no hole, lip or shadow marks the grass above. The earth keeps its own counsel there, swallowing what it builds and returning nothing but the memory of depth.
In levelled ringfort (8162). 'Underground chamber' mentioned by Broker(1937, 46). No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
