Carrowbaun is a man-made underground passage inside a rath in County Mayo. A flat stone slab still roofs a narrow opening in the outer bank, and the drystone passage runs beneath the earth into the rath interior. The slight depression inside marks its line, preserving the hidden shape of a place built to be entered, used and forgotten.

Located in a rath (MA072-007). A opening, roofed by a flat stone slab or lintel, is visible in the external face of the rath bank at NNE, 0.5m below the top of the bank. The opening (H 0.3m) is partly blocked, but reveals a Man-made underground passage passage (Wth c. 0.8m) of drystone construction, which extends to SSW beneath the bank into the interior of the rath. A very slight surface depression can be seen in the rath interior, extending for 5m to SW from the inner face of the bank; this probably indicates the line of the passage.
