Man-made underground passage in Caherdean

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

In a rath (KE058-132001-). A 'Cavern' was recorded in this rath in the 1840s (OSNB, Kilcredane, 17). The landowner pointed out two large stone slabs in a clear area in the N half of the rath which, according to him, mark the location of a possible Man-made underground passage. He recalls as a child throwing stones into a cavity under the slabs. The cavity was not visible at the time of inspection. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
