Closed and lost beneath the grassland at Ballynacloghy, the man-made underground passage disappeared before McCaffrey could walk it. Holt recorded two apertures opening below a small hut and yard beside the rath in 1912, but local people told McCaffrey in 1952 that the passage had been closed up. The earth may have swallowed the hole, the people may have forgotten the way, or the passage may have stopped serving the living and become a story about absence.

In grassland. Holt (1912, 228) recorded that immediately to the E of the rath (GA094-013----) 'beyond a field wall, are the foundations of a small hut [GA094-013002-] and yard, below which, as revealed by two apertures is a 'Man-made underground passage' (GA094-013001-). McCaffrey (1952, 122, no. 39) could not find the 'hut' or 'Man-made underground passage', and local people informed him that the latter had been closed up. Not located.
