Man-made underground passage & BURIALS in Coshquin

Man-made underground passage & BURIALS

What is recorded here

Coshquin holds a man-made underground passage and burials spanning the medieval and sixteenth centuries. Darkness pressed around the living and the dead, forcing everyone to trust touch rather than sight. The passage may have served worship, hiding, or burial, but its exact purpose has faded. What remains is a hole in the earth where human hands shaped rock and loss entered the ground together.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as Man-made underground passage & BURIALS. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.; C16TH; MED/L.MED. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
