Indicated

Earthwork

What is recorded here

Indicated is a vanished earthen platform in County Dublin, Ireland, lost inside the ornamental grounds of Malahide Demesne. Westropp described a 17m diameter disc guarded by fosse, bank and outer ditch, but gravel hunger had already bitten through its middle. The earthwork did not fade from neglect; it was taken as material, leaving only a hole where a shape once stood.
Formerly in the ornamental grounds of Malahide Demesne. According to Westropp (1915) the site originally comprised an earthen platform c. 17m in diameter, enclosed by a fosse (Wth 3-4m), a bank (Wth c. 2m) and an outer fosse (Wth.3-4m, D 1m). It had been quarried in the middle for gravel at the time of Westropp's visit. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 26 August 2011
