In Loughrea, a neat limestone block carries carvings of a dragon, confronting animals, a horned creature with a chain and trefoils joined by a chain. It leaned against a ruined out-building for as long as anyone remembered, while locals believed it had fallen from the old castle. The stone may have worn a door, braced a wall or marked a chamber now lost, but its sharp images still tease the mind with forgotten purpose.

Found on the side of an old ruined out-building, this neat rectangular limestone block (L 0.44m; Wth 0.23m) with slightly battered sides and a slightly dished surface is decorated with relief carvings on each side face. The carvings include a dragon, a pair of animals confronting each other, a single-horned animal with a chain and a pair of trefoil terminals connected by a chain. The stone was not in situ but had been in the yard for as long as anyone could remember and locally it was believed to be from the old castle (GA105-150006-).
