Inchcleraun

Inchcleraun is a quiet island in Lough Ree where the ruined monastery of St. Diarmaid still stands beside legends that Medb bathed in its waters and later died there from a flying stone or cheese. The annals remember it as a place rich enough to tempt repeated plundering by fleets from Munster, suggesting its fields and halls once drew hungry men across the lake. Even without a living town, the island remains inhabited in memory: a small cloth of land where kings, monks, thieves and lovers all left their marks before the water swallowed the noise.
