Poulawillin is the old name for the Spanish Point coastal region where the Morony family transformed a leased farm into a grand seaside estate. Thomas Morony Jr. built Miltown House and the Atlantic Hotel, attracting wealthy visitors for seaweed baths and steeplechase racing. The place still carries the shadow of two wrecked Spanish Armada ships, whose drowned crews and executed survivors were buried in a common grave at Tuama na Spainneach.
