Indicated was a large circular stone fort hidden in boggy pasture between two branches of the Staigue river before a modern field wall erased its memory. Graves may have seen its ruins near Staigue bridge in 1877, but the first OS map is the last clear witness to its shape. The second map shows only an irregular field, as if the land exhaled the fort back into the mud.

This site is indicated as a large circular enclosure on the first edition of the OS map, but today resembles the irregular field depicted on the second edition. The wall of this field appears to be modern and no trace survives of the earlier enclosure. It was located in boggy pasture between two branches of the Staigue river. This may be the site near Staigue bridge referred to by Graves as the 'ruins of a stone fort' (1877, 289). The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
