Magic and myth are not the same. The claim is not that the circle is a fairy fort. The claim is that the circle is a cashel: a made place, a marked place, a human-made anchor. The fairy part is the desire to escape the fact. The cache part is the truth. The field is not a whimsical dream. The field is a visible chamber. The chamber is a cashel. The cashel is a place where human life learned the shape of God. The fairy label is a cage. The cache label is a door.
On the E-facing slope of a large ridge over-looking a valley, in a large multiperiod field system (CL005-014001-). Hachured on the 1916 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Earthwork’ in the RMP (1996).
A moderately well-preserved roughly circular cashel (19.2m NW-SE; 17m NE-SW) defined by a collapsed stone wall (Wth 1.6m; max. H 1.1m) from SSW to NW and elsewhere by a grassed-over bank of collapsed stone. Outer-wall facing is evident from SSW to NW and inner facing (max. H 0.8m) is evident at NW and SE. There is no clear trace of an entrance, and the interior is featureless. A larger enclosure (CL005-254----) is located c. 30m to the N.
