On a raised area at the top of College Road, Ennis, a windmill stood from at least 1807 until its demolition by 1855. It turnedClare wind into meal for the growing town, doing useful work without coal, smoke or visible labour. People may have watched its sails catch storms or sit still in calm, reading the weather and their own patience in its movement. The mill is gone, but the rise remains, marking the place where Ennis once borrowed motion from the sky.

On a raised area at the top of College Road, Ennis. Listed as Windmill in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). The earliest reference to a windmill at this location is in the Corporation Book of Ennis in 1807 as cited in Ó Dálaigh (2012, 17).
