What is recorded here
Indicated is a fairy fort in County Mayo, an oval ring of earth and stone sitting on a ridge above Levallinree Lough. Its flat-topped bank and eastern gap suggest people once lived there, while the deep hollow outside hints at older or forgotten use. The name itself points instead of explaining, as if the place still waits for someone to notice what it marks.
In pasture just S of the highest point of a N-S ridge overlooking the N end of Levallinree Lough c. 180m to the ESE. An oval-shaped area (int. diams. 23m E-W; 16m N-S) is defined by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.5-4.5m; av. int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.5m-1.5m) which is flat-topped (Wth 1.7-2m) along ENE and WSW and round-topped elsewhere. A gap (Wth 3m) at E marks the entrance and there is a later livestock gap (Wth 4.5m) at SSW. A deep (D 2.5m) roughly circular hollow (diam. 15m) lies outside the monument at NNE.
