Not located in County Galway, the standing stone is absent from the official record. That vacancy is not a failure of knowledge, but a shape of the story. The stone may have been buried, broken, taken or never witnessed. It may also be the kind of marker people stopped naming because it no longer served the living. What is missing has not stopped existing. It has withdrawn its proof.
