What is recorded here
Freestanding circular-plan two-stage windmill, c.1780. Now ruinous. Rubble limestone walls with some render remaining. Narrow slit windows splayed to interior in upper floors. Opposed square-headed doorways to ground floor, missing their lintels. Part of stone spiral staircase retained to interior, although all other features and machinery have been lost.
Prominently sited on a hill top in order to best utilize the wind power, this mill is an attractive focal point in the landscape. Although now roofless and ruinous, the original form and proportions of the mill are still evident. Situated within the former demesne of Belle Isle, it is likely that the mill formed part of a group of demesne-related structures.
