What is recorded here

Leagh held a circular fort marked on maps from 1841 to 1915, but human feet have since worn its earth flat. It vanished so completely that only shadow marks in crops revealed its shape decades later. The forgetfulness is total, yet the land still remembers the boundary drawn within it.

Marked on the 1841-42 and 1915-16 OS maps as a circular enclosure, this site can also be picked up as a crop mark on the Geological Survey of Ireland's aerial photographs (1977).
