On the south side of the Lanesborough church, a small eighteenth-century sandstone cross marks a grave. Its shaft carries the words IHS HERE LYETH THE BODY OF, but the name has vanished under weather and time. The cross stands half-swallowed by earth, holding a forgotten person in suspension between memory and loss.

On the S side of the church (LF017-003004-) is a small Latin sandstone cross (H 0.44m, 0.34m x 0.14m) which dates to the 18th century. It is used as a grave-marker and is set deeply in the ground at the head of a grave. The shaft bears an inscription in a mixture of scripts and Roman capitals. It reads 'IHS HERE LY/ETH THE/BODY OF [indecipherable] … .' (Bradley et al. 1985, 28). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 26 August 2011
