House

This Neolithic House Site, No. 9, is part of Eogan's Phase 3 Decorated Pottery complex: Domestic activity - Zone H, which includes an area beneath the entrance of Tomb 1C East, where 6 hearths have been recognised. This phase, now called Middle Neolithic, is associated with the building of the tombs and dated to c. 3500-2900 cal. BC (Eogan and Cleary 2017, 41). In this zone house site No. 9 was located c. 18m SE of the entrance area to the E tomb and is entangled with House Site No. 10 just to its SW. It consisted of a fairly complete circle (diam. 3.75m) of stake-holes, but no hearth or occupation layer is associated with it. The zone produced evidence of at 8 vessels as well as flints.
