What is recorded here
Knockuregare holds two unidentified burials within ten yards of Uregare House, large enough to startle the people digging there. Lewis recorded the discovery in 1837, yet no map has ever marked the exact spot. The bodies escaped every later attempt to picture them, preserving a rare human boundary: known only through the surprise they caused.
The precise location of two burials close to Uregare House within the townland of Knockuregare has not been identified. Not depicted on OSi historic maps. Described by Lewis (1837, 160) as following; ‘Within ten yards [9m] of Owregare [Uregare] House, two skeletons of unusually large size were discovered in digging’.
