Five centuries after Cromwell's soldiers passed, the gallaun still stands inside his fort, taller than memory and harder to move. Chatterton shook it in 1839, but a leaning slab and hidden packing stones have answered every storm since. The fort may have claimed the stone or the stone may have waited out the fort; either way, Gallaun refuses to be forgotten.

This regularly shaped standing stone is located in a farmyard, about 100m SE of Lough Y Keel. It stands 2m high, and measures 1.4m x .75m at base; NE-SW. The above description is derived from A.
