Enclosure in Knockeen — Report the wrong picture

What is recorded here

Knockeen is an empty enclosure in County Carlow, Ireland. Local tradition still calls it a rath, yet no wall, ditch or ancient mark remains visible. The land has not been cultivated, and the forgotten shape may have vanished under grass, rain or time. What is left is a name holding the ghost of a boundary nobody can still point to.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Considered in local tradition to be a 'rath'. Not cultivated. No visible trace of any antiquity.

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
