Kilranelagh House

Gate screen with gate lodge at the western entrance to the Kilranelagh House demesne, built c.1780. The screen consists of low curving roughcast rendered walls with two carriage gateways and the lodge set in between. The gateways have square piers with iron gates to the south. There are larger outer piers. The east-facing stepped gable of the gate lodge (which is now disused) is set into the wall. The lodge itself is a small, two-bay part single part one and half-storey structure, with walls largely finished in roughcast and with a slated pitched roof. The entrance consists of a timber tongue and groove door. Whilst the elliptical and flat-headed window openings are boarded up. On the demesne wall just to the south side of the gate screen there is a small inscribed milestone showing directions and distances to Dublin and Dunlavin to the north, and the Hacketstown, Rathdrum, Arklow and Wicklow to the south, all in "British MILES".

Distinctive late Georgian gate screen which incorporates a gate lodge. Although now in poor condition the ensemble retains an air of importance and remains of value.
