Crannog in Kilmacat

Crannog

What is recorded here

Crannog in Kilmacat marks a lost lake dwelling on the eastern shore of Dromore Lough, below Dromore Castle. The exact spot has slipped from modern sight, but water, reeds and memory still circle the place where people once lived above the swamp.
According to Westropp (1916-7, 22) there are several crannogs 'on the eastern shore of the lake, below the modern castle of Dromore'; this lake is Dromore Lough. There is also a report of crannogs in the area between Dromore and Bleach Lough (NMI). The exact location of these monuments is not known. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
